  • Body of murdered toddler exhumed in west Cork Murder · Co. Cork

On 5 March 2013, Martin McCarthy drowned his three-year-old daughter Clarissa McCarthy in Audley Cove, west Cork, before taking his own life. McCarthy had been changing his will from early February 2013 and left a suicide note for his wife Rebecca Saunders, who was planning to divorce him. In June 2022, nine years later, Clarissa's remains were exhumed from Schull cemetery at 4.30 am on a Friday morning and cremated at the Island Crematorium in Ringaskiddy, ending a nine-year campaign by her mother to bring her home to the US.
