latest first- Man and wife sentenced for fraudulently cashing cheques in Dublin Fraud (fraudulently obtaining money; cashing cheques as proceeds of crime) · Co. Dublin
An elderly woman in her 80s in Dún Laoghaire paid over €44,000 to a purported roofing company for significant works on her house, but only minor works were carried out. Ciaran Heneghan, a man aged 38, and his wife Tracey Heneghan, a woman aged 38, were employees of the company and pleaded guilty to cashing cheques totalling €6,500 and €13,000 respectively at Ulster Bank in Dublin Airport between July 2019 and March 2020. Both were charged with cashing cheques as proceeds of crime. In February 2023, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced Ciaran Heneghan to a two-year suspended sentence with an order to repay €6,000 to the victim, while Tracey Heneghan was placed on good behaviour under Section 100 with discharge set for 8 June 2023. A separate investigation into the roofing company is ongoing and a third accused was due in court the following week.
