  • Inquest to open over Daniel Aruebose murder in Donabate Illegal burial · Co. Dublin

Daniel Aruebose, an Irish boy aged about three and a half, was last seen alive in 2021 at his family home in The Gallery Apartments, Donabate, north Dublin, and is believed to have died that year. His skeletal remains were found on 17 September 2025 in a shallow grave on waste ground off Portrane Road, Donabate, after a 16-day search that began following a social welfare payment check that led Tusla to alert Gardaí on 29 August 2025. The investigation was upgraded to a homicide inquiry in December 2025 after DNA confirmed the remains; the mother, Maria Aruebose, an African-born woman in her 20s, was arrested on suspicion of murder on 22 December 2025 and released without charge, and the father, Ciaran Dirrean, an Irish man in his 20s, was arrested at Dublin Airport on 10 February 2026 after deportation from Brazil and also released without charge. An inquest into his death will open and be adjourned on 5 November 2026 while the Garda investigation continues.
