Andrew Morris, 35, of Cloneen, Athleague, Roscommon, was arrested on 8 March 2023 after violently resisting Gardaí at his sister's home and injuring four officers. He pleaded guilty to assault on Gardaí Ciara Quinn, Vincent Hickey, Amanda Lynch and Enda Kane, and faced trial on ten counts. At Longford Circuit Court on 31 January 2024, Judge Connolly sentenced him to five and a half years in prison for assault on a peace officer, with the last year suspended. The judge noted that the death of a friend in Scotland had pushed Morris off the rails, and that he had 44 previous convictions.
