latest first- Man convicted of assault in Askeaton, Limerick Assault · Co. Limerick
On 16 May 2024, gardaí responded to a 999 call after an altercation between neighbours near the entrance to a housing estate in Askeaton, Limerick. Henry Blackwell, 44, of Lismakeera, Askeaton, was charged with assault and criminal damage after the prosecution said he threw Ciara McCarthy to the ground and that his actions were disproportionate. At a contested hearing at Kilmallock District Court, the criminal damage charge was dismissed and Blackwell was formally convicted of assault after his solicitor confirmed he would not give evidence. The judge expressed grave concerns about Blackwell's temper, noting it was his second assault conviction, and the matter was adjourned to 24 April for a probation report.
