  Christina McCarthy, a 61-year-old woman, was knifed in the face and beaten with sticks by a group of women in her bedroom at her home in Rathkeale, Co Limerick, on 10 December 2019. The five accused – Nora 'Josie' Harty (58), Mary Ellen Daly (35), Ciara Johnson (30), Christina Casey (48) and Rita Johnson (51), all women – went on trial at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court in May 2025, where all initially pleaded not guilty. In June 2025, Harty and Daly pleaded guilty to assault causing harm, Casey to violent disorder, and Rita Johnson to trespassing, while Ciara Johnson was acquitted. In March 2026, Harty and Daly were each jailed for three and a half years with the final year suspended, Casey was jailed for 28 months with the final ten months suspended, and Rita Johnson was ordered to complete 120 hours of community service.
