latest first- Gardaí renew appeal in suspected murder of Ciara Breen in Dundalk Murder (suspected) · Co. Louth
Ciara Breen, a woman aged 17, disappeared from her home on Batchelor's Walk, Dundalk, on the night of 13 February 1997 and was last seen at Balmer's Bog. Liam Mullen, a man in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of murder in 1999 and again later, but was released without charge. The case was upgraded from a missing persons investigation to murder in 2014, and a large-scale search of Balmer's Bog in 2015 found nothing. Mullen died in Garda custody in 2017 after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Gardaí renewed their appeal for information in February 2025 as the 28th anniversary of her disappearance approached.
