  Cian Cooney, 36, of Ballymahon, Co Longford, who worked as a PE and geography teacher at a south Dublin secondary school, groomed a 13-year-old girl in summer 2013 by sending a Facebook friend request under an alias, telling her he was 18 when he was 28. He pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation and having sex with a child under 15 on multiple occasions and was sentenced to six years and six months at Longford Circuit Court in February, with the final 18 months suspended. In January 2022, Ms Justice Mary Irvine formally confirmed a 30-year strike-off from the teaching register, the most severe sanction under the Teaching Council Act. Separately, a car with excessive front window tinting was stopped in Tallaght, Dublin, where windows let only 23% light through against a 65% requirement, and the driver was instructed to remove the tints with summons to follow.
