Gardaí seized suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €70,000 at the home of Christy Keane, 65, at Singland Gardens, Singland, Limerick, on 22 November 2024 as part of a planned operation targeting the Keane organised crime group. Keane was initially arrested but released without charge, and was re-arrested on 30 June 2026 and charged on 1 July with three offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Co-accused Stephen McNamara, 44, of Meelick, County Clare, is charged with possession of €492,000 worth of cocaine from the same investigation. The DPP directed both men to face trial at the Special Criminal Court, and Keane was refused bail and remanded in custody on 15 September 2026, while McNamara's bail was continued on a €500 bond.

On 22 November 2024, gardaí seized €560,000 worth of suspected cocaine during searches in Limerick City as part of Operation Tara, including €490,000 from a stopped vehicle and €70,000 from a property search under warrant. Irish man Christy Keane, 65, and Stephen McNamara, 43, were arrested in connection with the seizure. McNamara was charged with possession of cocaine for sale or supply and granted bail at Limerick District Court in November 2024, while Keane was initially released without charge but later charged with three drugs offences relating to the €70,000 cocaine found at his home. As of August 2026, Keane was further remanded in custody in Limerick Prison and directed to face trial on indictment before the Special Criminal Court.

Christy Keane, a convicted drug dealer, was shot four times by two gunmen on 29 June 2015 as he parked his car at the University of Limerick, surviving after escaping via a nearby running track. John Costello, 41, pleaded guilty in March 2023 to providing transport to the shooters and was sentenced in May 2023 to four years and six months with the remainder suspended. Noel Price, 45, pleaded guilty in June 2023 to assisting the McCarthy-Dundon criminal organisation with a vehicle and was jailed for six and a half years in July 2023. Larry McCarthy, 42, pleaded guilty in October 2023 to making a getaway vehicle available to the gang and was sentenced in March 2024 to six and a half years imprisonment.

Two gunmen wearing balaclavas fired 13 rounds into Christy Keane's Nissan pickup truck at the University of Limerick gym in late June 2015, wounding him in four places. Larry McCarthy, 45, from Limerick City, was identified as having provided and positioned a getaway Volvo for the shooters, who escaped from a red Ford Focus that was later burned out. McCarthy pleaded guilty in October 2023 to making a vehicle available to the McCarthy-Dundon criminal organisation in connection with the attempted murder. In March 2024 the Special Criminal Court imposed a headline sentence of 10 years, reduced by 20% to eight years, with the final 18 months suspended.
