  Christy Griffin, a man, 52, was requested to provide a DNA sample while serving time at Midlands Prison in Laois in April 2018 but refused, and later failed to attend two appointments at Swords Garda Station in 2020. He was previously jailed for life in 2007 for the repeated rape of a girl over an eight-year period, with the sentence later reduced to 15 years on appeal. Griffin was charged under Section 31 of the Criminal Justice (Forensic Evidence and DNA Database System) Act 2014 and pleaded not guilty at Swords District Court in September 2021. The prosecution was dismissed at Swords District Court in February 2022, the judge ruling the delay in serving notice was too long.
