Christopher Ryan, a 34-year-old man from Thurles, Co Tipperary, broke into the bedroom of a 38-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter in the Ballineen area of West Cork at about 4.30am on 12 January 2025, where he digitally penetrated the woman through her pyjamas and punched her repeatedly in the face before the woman struck him with a hurley. A neighbour raised the alarm after hearing the daughter screaming and found Ryan hiding in a green area, leading to his arrest at the scene. Ryan, who was on bail for a 2023 rape charge, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault, assault causing harm, false imprisonment and burglary at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork. In January 2026, Ms Justice Siobhán Lankford sentenced him to eight years with 18 months suspended, to run consecutively to his existing sentence for the earlier rape.

Christopher Ryan, 33, originally from Thurles, Tipperary, strangled and raped his partner Kerrie Keane at her home in Galway on 11 November 2023. Ms Keane called emergency services at 5:30am and Ryan was arrested four days later. He pleaded guilty to rape, sexual assault, assault causing harm and criminal damage. On 30 July 2025, Justice Mary Ellen Ring at the Central Criminal Court sentenced him to 11-and-a-half years, with the final year suspended, and ordered no contact with Ms Keane.
