Wayne Whelan, 42, a man, was shot dead at Mount Andrew Rise in Lucan, Co Dublin on 18 November 2019, and the car in which he was sitting was set on fire with his remains inside. Anthony Casserly, 25, a man, lured Whelan to the scene under the pretence of watching a football match and pleaded guilty to participating in or contributing to the murder, receiving a seven-year sentence in January 2022. Christopher Moran, 52, a man, pleaded guilty to being the getaway driver and was sentenced to six years with 18 months suspended in April 2022. Mark Casserly, 49, a man, pleaded guilty to giving a false account of his son's movements during the investigation and was sentenced to five years suspended in full in July 2023.

Wayne Whelan, 42, a west Dublin drug dealer and gangland criminal, was shot dead at Mount Andrew Rise, Lucan, Co Dublin on 18 November 2019 after being lured there by Anthony Casserly, 25, under the pretence of watching an Ireland versus Denmark soccer match. The car in which Whelan was sitting was set on fire and his remains had to be identified by DNA analysis. Christopher Moran, reported as 51 or 52, who acted as getaway driver, and Casserly were on trial for murder at the Central Criminal Court but both pleaded guilty to lesser charges in October 2021. Casserly was sentenced in January 2022 to nine years, with the final two years suspended, for participating in or contributing to the murder.
