  • Appeal to change guilty plea dismissed in Castlerea burglary case Burglary · Co. Roscommon

    Christopher McLoughlin, a 43-year-old man, pleaded guilty on 2 March 2020 to burglary, unauthorised taking of an Audi A6 estate and a BMW 3 series, and theft of tools at Springfield, Castlerea, Co Roscommon. He was on bail for a separate aggravated burglary at the time of the offences. In June 2024, Judge Kenneth Connolly sentenced him to five years and six months imprisonment with the final 18 months suspended, to be served after his aggravated burglary term. In October 2026, the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal to change his guilty plea, finding his claim of drug-induced intoxication at the time of the plea not credible.
