Cases
latest first- Sligo man jailed for nine years for rape and sexual assault Rape; oral rape; sexual assault · Co. Sligo
Christopher Feeney, an Irish man then aged 59, was sentenced in June 2022 to an effective nine-year jail term for raping and sexually assaulting a 54-year-old woman from Northern Ireland at his home in Millbrook, Riverside, Sligo on 26 April 2015. The pair had met on the dating app Tinder and went out for drinks before returning to his apartment, where the attack lasted about an hour. The victim was rescued after hanging a towel on the balcony to identify her apartment to gardaí, and Feeney was arrested at the scene before fleeing to the UK, where he was arrested in 2019. He was found guilty at the Central Criminal Court in September 2021 of one count of rape, one count of oral rape and two counts of sexual assault, with the jury unable to agree on false imprisonment. The judge imposed concurrent sentences of nine years for rape and oral rape and four years for each sexual assault, plus a three-year post-release supervision order, and registered him as a sex offender.
