Christopher Cooney (59), a man from Derrylough, Killimer, was convicted at Kilrush District Court of possessing a cannabis plant found at his property on 28 June 2021. He pleaded guilty and was fined €200 by Judge Mary Larkin. Cooney, who was jailed for life in 1992 for the 1991 murder of Robert Lynch (22) in Ennis, had also received a two-year suspended jail term in late 2021 for selling €8,900 worth of cannabis. He said the plant was for his own personal use.
