latest first- Man jailed for eight years over stabbing and attempted robbery in Dublin Assault (stabbing) with attempted robbery · Co. Dublin
On 28 January 2021, Christopher Coakley, 31, kicked a Spanish doctor from his e-scooter at Seville Place in Dublin's north inner city and stabbed him seven times with a pair of scissors while attempting to take his backpack and scooter. Coakley was arrested in June 2021 and initially charged with attempted murder. In March 2023 he pleaded guilty to intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm, and the DPP dropped the attempted murder charge. On 19 June 2023, Mr Justice Paul Burns at the Central Criminal Court sentenced him to eight years in prison, with the final 12 months of a nine-year term suspended for three years. The judge described the attack as premeditated and noted Coakley's 124 previous convictions.
