On 2 May 2025, Gardaí intercepted a vehicle on a slip road off the M50 in Coolock, north Dublin, and seized approximately 21kg of suspected heroin initially valued at around €3 million. Christian Munoz Sanchez, a 35-year-old Spanish man from Barcelona, was arrested at the scene, and Oliver Etienne, a 44-year-old English man also based in Barcelona, was arrested at Liffey Terrace in Lucan. Both were charged with possession of drugs and possession of drugs for sale or supply under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Sanchez pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for sale or supply on 2 May 2025. In February 2026, he was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to seven years' imprisonment with the final two years suspended.
