latest first- Man sentenced for sexually assaulting 10-year-old girl in Dublin Ikea store Sexual assault; offensive conduct of a sexual nature · Co. Dublin
Christian Mayer, a 48-year-old German IT professional, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl at an Ikea store on St Margaret's Road, Dublin 11, in August 2019, when he allegedly touched her in the breast area on the outside of her clothing. The mother of a 13-year-old girl reported a similar incident to Gardaí, and Mayer was arrested in November 2019 before leaving Ireland; he was extradited from Germany in January 2022 and charged with sexual assault and two counts of offensive conduct of a sexual nature. He pleaded not guilty, and at his non-jury trial the charge relating to the 13-year-old was dismissed because CCTV did not show the incident. In February 2023, Judge John Hughes sentenced him to nine months' imprisonment with three months suspended, a €1,000 fine, €3,000 compensation, and one year of Probation Service supervision, and he lodged his bail to be released pending appeal.
