• Scott's manslaughter sentence cut to four years six months in Galway Manslaughter · Co. Galway

On 27 April 2018, Michael Scott, a man then aged 58, of Gortanumera, Portumna, Co Galway, drove over his 76-year-old aunt Chrissie Treacy with an agricultural teleporter outside her home in Derryhiney, Portumna, Co Galway. Scott was initially charged with murder but pleaded not guilty, and at his trial at the Central Criminal Court in 2023 a jury found him not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence. He was sentenced to six years in prison in June 2023. In December 2025, the Court of Appeal reduced his sentence to four years and six months, backdated to 12 June 2023.
