In January 2023, ISPCA inspectors found a chestnut gelding emaciated and very unwell in a field off Hand Lane, Maddenstown, Co Kildare. The horse was diagnosed with chronic colitis and later euthanised. Chloe Walker Reid, 25, and James Boland, 26, both from Co Kildare, pleaded guilty to three offences each under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013. In March 2025, Naas District Court sentenced both to five-month custodial sentences to run concurrently and ordered them to pay €1,028.59 in vet fees.
