Martin Harte, 33, of Portarlington, Co Laois, began a relationship with Chloe Loran when she was 16 and raped her in her home in 2019 and on Easter Sunday 2022. The victim complained to gardaí in April 2022 and was examined at her local sexual assault treatment unit; Harte was arrested but nothing came from the interviews. He later pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to defilement of a child under 17 in 2013 and two counts of rape. On 13 October 2025, the judge set a headline sentence of 14 years, reduced it to 12 years, and imposed nine years in prison with the final year suspended on strict conditions and a four-year post-release supervision order.
