    Christopher Fitzsimons, a 40-year-old man from Athlone, Co Westmeath, was convicted by a Central Criminal Court jury in July 2025 of all 22 counts of rape and sexual assault against three of his partner's younger sisters. The abuse took place in various locations in Westmeath between 2001 and 2011, when the girls were aged between 12 and 16. The victims were Tara Berry, aged 12, Chloe Berry, aged 14, and Claire Berry, aged 15 to 16. In February 2026, Justice Eileen Creedon sentenced Fitzsimons to 13 years in prison, reducing a headline sentence of 14 years.
