On 9 November 2023 Cheston Hoogenboom, a 37-year-old Dutch woman, arrived at Dublin Airport on a flight from Brussels, where customs officials found cocaine in her luggage and on her body. Garda Peter Kelly arrested her in the customs area of Terminal 1 under the Misuse of Drugs Act, and she was taken to Beaumont Hospital for examination over concern that she had more drugs concealed on her body. Judge Martin Nolan at the Circuit Criminal Court sentenced her to 18 months in custody, backdated to 9 November 2023, after she pleaded guilty.
