Charlie Foster, a 75-year-old man from Lea, Portarlington, was stopped for not having insurance on Main Street in Portarlington on 28 March 2021. Gardaí found no record of any driving licence for him, and he had been a named driver on a policy which had lapsed. At a court hearing in June 2022, Judge Patricia Cronin confirmed he had never held a driving licence. He was fined €200 and disqualified from driving for two years.
