On 17 December 2024, Gardaí intercepted a vehicle on Rowlagh Avenue in Clondalkin, Dublin 22, and seized a semi-automatic Glock pistol, 9mm ammunition, masks, a petrol can and cocaine, preventing what they described as an imminent threat to life attack. Two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested at the scene under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. The target of the foiled plot was an associate of Cormac Berkeley, 37, a man shot dead in Clondalkin in December 2022, who had previously survived a hit in 2021. Gardaí are investigating whether Charles McClean, a man aged 35, serving 20 years for three gangland crimes, ordered the hit from his cell at Portlaoise Prison. Both men have been charged and are due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court on 20 December 2024.

Mark Desmond, a 41-year-old man, was shot at least three times with a handgun at Griffeen Valley Park, Lucan, Dublin, on 2 December 2016. Charles McClean, a 35-year-old man, was originally charged with murdering Desmond but on 29 January 2024 pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to impeding the apprehension or prosecution of the person who killed him. McClean, who is already serving two consecutive sentences totalling 16½ years for other offences, was remanded in custody until 6 February for a sentence hearing, with a victim impact report ordered.

Wayne Whelan, 42, was attacked at Griffeen Glen Park in Lucan on 4 September 2019 and survived, but was shot dead in a separate attack on 18 November 2019. Wayne Ryan, 41, pleaded guilty to the attempted murder, and Cailean Crawford, 25, Darren Henderson, 31, and Charles McClean, 32, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to murder Whelan between 15 May and 15 November 2019. On 2 September 2021 Mr Justice Michael White at the Central Criminal Court jailed the four men for a total of 33 years, with Ryan receiving 15 years, McClean eight years, and Henderson and Crawford seven years each with the final two years suspended. The latest development is the sentencing of the four men.
