latest first- Appeal dismissed in Bandon impeding apprehension or prosecution case Impeding apprehension or prosecution · Co. Cork
Jonathan Duke, 27, was strangled at Bridge House, Bandon, Co. Cork, on November 12, 2011, and his body was thrown into the River Bandon, 24 hours after John Forrester, 42, was killed in the same building. Romanian man Ciprian Grozavu, 49, and woman Catherine O'Connor, his girlfriend at the time, were linked to both killings. Grozavu was originally convicted of both murders and jailed for life, but the Court of Appeal quashed the murder conviction over Duke's death and ordered a retrial. At the 2021 retrial in Limerick, he was acquitted of murder on the judge's direction but convicted of two counts of impeding apprehension or prosecution and sentenced to eight years with a concurrent six-year term. The Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal against that conviction in July 2023.
