latest first- Woman given benefit of probation act for assault at Tullamore hospital Assault (section 3) · Co. Laois
Sandra Ward, 43, was admitted to the A&E unit of Tullamore Hospital at 8pm on 21 November 2021, where she bit Nurse Catherine Lally on the upper arm, causing it to bleed. Ward, who was highly intoxicated, was later arrested and made a detailed admission to Garda Clancy. At Tullamore District Court, Judge Patricia Cronin heard the Section 3 assault charge, noting the aggravating circumstances of the assault taking place in a hospital. Ward pleaded guilty, and the judge applied Section 1.1 of the Probation Act, taking into account her lack of previous convictions and that compensation had been paid to Nurse Lally.
