On 12 November 2023, Dylan Killalee Maher, a 21-year-old apprentice electrician, was killed when Cameron Cooper, 23, drove a car into him at an estimated 120 km/h outside the Red Cow Inn nightclub on the Naas Road in Ballyfermot, Dublin. Cooper left the scene without offering assistance, falsely reported his car as stolen, and presented himself to a Garda station two hours later. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death, driving with no insurance, making a false report of a crime, and failing to offer assistance. On 24 March 2025, Judge Ronan Munro at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court sentenced Cooper to five years and three months in prison with the final 12 months suspended, and banned him from driving for nine years. The victim's family has called for the maximum sentence to be increased and is to contact the DPP to seek an appeal against the sentence.
