Catherine Gregg, a 46-year-old woman from Belgooly, Co Cork, was employed as a carer for an elderly woman with dementia in Kinsale, Co Cork, and stole €45,773.93 from her. Reports give the offending period as September 2018 to September 2021 or to January 2022. The victim's adult children found suspicious transactions and referred the matter to gardaí, and Gregg made full admissions when arrested. In May 2023 she pleaded guilty to 17 theft counts, and sentencing at Cork Circuit Criminal Court was adjourned so she could raise compensation, with her remanded on bail. In November 2023 she was sentenced, with one report giving three years with the final six months suspended and another giving 2½ years, and the sentence was deferred until January.
