Sean Kilkenny, 48, of Tuamgraney, Scarriff, County Clare, was charged with sending alleged harassment messages to Cathal Crowe, a Clare Fianna Fáil TD, between May 4 and June 26, 2023, and with obstructing a garda acting under a warrant at Tuamgraney on July 3, 2023. He was arrested at 12:26pm on July 3, 2023, and charged at 5:41pm at Ennis Garda Station, and first appeared at Killaloe District Court sitting in Ennis on July 4, 2023, where he was remanded on bail. At a February 6, 2024 hearing, his solicitor proposed a cease-and-desist undertaking, and at a March 5, 2024 hearing, Kilkenny offered to apologise to the complainant. The case was adjourned to May 7, 2024, so that Kilkenny could swear the undertaking in person before Judge Alec Gabbett.

A four-minute anonymous video was posted on social media around March 2022, featuring Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe, images of rainbow-liveried garda cars, references to the eighth amendment repeal and pride parades, and ending with the sound of a gunshot. The unnamed narrator called Crowe a 'toxic, inarticulate piece of sh#t' and stated he would continue to defend his property with violence if necessary. Crowe, a Clare TD, was notified of the video by friends and constituents the week before he made a complaint at Ennis Garda Station on 25 April 2022.
