    Paschal Gibbons, 45, was sentenced at Letterkenny Circuit Court in May 2022 for assaulting Carrie Walker-Hayes on a bus between Lifford and Letterkenny on 29 June 2017. The judge stated a headline sentence of five months imprisonment was merited but reduced it to three months, suspended for 12 months, after mitigating factors including Gibbons' attendance at AA meetings. Gibbons also entered a bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for 12 months and brought €3,000 to court as reparation. The victim told the court she no longer feels safe on public transport and did not start a course she had paid almost €3,000 to undertake.
