Caroline Donoghue, 46, a woman from Killashee, Longford, pleaded guilty to possessing a sawn-off shotgun seized at Farneyhoogan, Longford, on 2 September 2019. At Longford Circuit Court, the defence said she took the firearm to prevent her son engaging in a feud, while the prosecution said her claim about dropping the gun in a river was contradicted in a recorded phone call. Judge Keenan Johnson described the offence as feeding into feud culture in the Midlands and sentenced her to three years, suspended for five years on a bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
