  A 36-year-old man, son of retired District Court judge Kevin Kilrane, was arrested and charged with three counts of possessing 1,600 images and 84 videos of child sexual abuse on three electronic devices. The alleged possession took place at an address in Sligo in May 2025, and the case record gives 12 May 2025. He was formally charged at Sligo Garda Station at 9.34am and made no reply to the charges. On Thursday 17 September 2026 he appeared before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham at Sligo District Court, where the DPP directed prosecution on indictment and consented to a signed plea sent forward to the Circuit Criminal Court, and he was granted bail. The most recent development in the reports is that he was remanded on bail to Sligo District Court on 26 November.
