latest first- Lecturer sentenced for child sexual assault in Limerick Sexual assault (child) · Co. Limerick
John Hogan, a 59-year-old man and TUS Athlone lecturer, was sentenced at Limerick Circuit Court on 16 May 2022 to three years in prison with the final year suspended for sexually assaulting his two nieces, Niamh Richardson, 29, and Caitríona Hickey, 37, both women, when they were aged eight and ten. The assaults took place at family gatherings and sleepovers in County Limerick and Dublin between 1994 and 2001. The nieces disclosed the abuse to their families in 2017, after which Hogan was arrested and later pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual assault, with five further counts taken into consideration. The victims waived their right to anonymity at sentencing, and Hogan's employer TUS said it was unaware of the charges until media reports.
