Edward McGregor, 55, of Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, groomed and sexually abused his two young cousins, Frances McGregor and Caitriona Carr, while babysitting them between 1986 and 1993, when the sisters were aged six to 13. The abuse, which included oral rape and attempted rape, took place mainly at the victims' family home in Dublin 7 and partly at McGregor's family home in Ballymun, Dublin 9. The offending came to light in 2019 when Carr told her husband, and McGregor entered guilty pleas to 15 offences in November 2025 as his trial was about to begin for a third time. In May 2026, the Central Criminal Court sentenced him to nine years in jail, with the final year suspended, and ordered him to be registered as a sex offender.
