  • Appeal dismissed in murder of two-year-old Santina Cawley in Cork Murder · Co. Cork

    Two-year-old Irish girl Santina Cawley was found critically injured at the apartment of Irish woman Karen Harrington, 38, at Elderwood Park, Boreenmanna Road, Cork, on 5 July 2019, after her father Michael Cawley left her in Harrington's care while he walked into the city. Harrington was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty. A jury at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork found her guilty in May 2022 and she was sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment. The Court of Appeal dismissed her appeal on 6 June 2024, upholding the conviction and sentence.
