Brian Payne, a 39-year-old man, sent five explicit images of young boys via WhatsApp to a man in Manchester he was dating online between 23 and 24 January 2016. He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing five images of child pornography at an address in East Wall, Dublin on 12 February 2017, and to distributing child pornography on 23-24 January 2016. In November 2021, Judge Elma Sheahan sentenced him to 18 months' imprisonment with the final six months suspended on strict conditions. Payne has no previous convictions and is attending counselling sessions with the child abuse charity One in Four.
