Brian McNamee, a 34-year-old man from Crossmaglen, was found in a white Ford Transit van at Lisheen Park, Knockbridge, Dundalk on 22 September 2020, allegedly linked to a credit card scam that defrauded Universal Meat Company in Portadown. The company had received three phone orders from a purported new customer, with the first two orders worth £7,500 collected by the van and a third consignment collected by a courier. At a contested hearing at Dundalk District Court in late March 2022, Judge Alan Mitchell dismissed charges of possessing cloned registration plates and custody of a false instrument, finding no evidence the plates were cloned or the plate a false instrument. McNamee was convicted of driving without insurance, fined €400, and disqualified from driving for two years, with a recognizance of €1,000 fixed in the event of an appeal.
