Two serving members of An Garda Síochána, Garda Brian Carroll, 42, of Ballinaboy, Kilteevan, Co Roscommon, and Sgt James Muldowney, 47, of Greenville, Caltra, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, face corruption-related charges including disclosing confidential information, perverting the course of justice, theft, and intimidation. The alleged offences date from September 2021 in Longford, March 2022 at Carroll's home in Roscommon, and January 2024 in Roscommon town. Both were arrested by appointment at Granard Garda Station on 28 July 2025 and charged by the Garda Anti-Corruption Unit. The DPP directed trial by indictment, and the cases were sent to Longford Circuit Court, where they have been adjourned multiple times. As of October 2026, both cases were adjourned to 1 December 2026 with a possible trial in April 2027, and Carroll is applying for a separate trial from Muldowney.

On 24 April 2020, Garda Brian Carroll and Sgt David Bunn were carrying out searches in Edgeworthstown, Longford, when a member of Jonathan Wykes' family tossed a taser over a hedge and Wykes hit Garda Carroll on the arm, causing him to drop his phone. Wykes pleaded guilty to the assault and was sentenced in May 2022 to two years in prison with the final year suspended for three years. Kevin Stokes, 31, was separately charged in November 2023 with possession of a firearm and assault on Garda Carroll. His case was adjourned at Longford District Court in February 2024 to 5 March for a victim impact statement.
