On 7 May 2025, gardaí and Revenue officers seized approximately 500kg of cannabis on two pallets, valued at over €10 million, at a residential property in Meelick, County Clare, during a joint operation under Operation Tara. Two men in their 60s were arrested; one was released without charge with a file to be prepared for the DPP. Brendan O'Meara, a 62-year-old former Ryanair pilot from An Tulach, Summerhill, Meelick, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis for sale or supply. He was refused bail at a special sitting of Ennis District Court on 10 May on flight-risk grounds and was further remanded in custody at his fifth court appearance on 25 June, with a next appearance set for 9 July.
