  Gardaí searched Brendan Cahill, a 38-year-old man, on Catherine Street, Limerick city, on 4 June 2024 and found drugs with a street value of €10. Cahill made admissions to gardaí that the drugs were for his own personal use. He was brought before Limerick District Court on a single charge of drug possession, pleaded guilty, and was assigned legal aid solicitor Kiely. A court report published on 9 May 2026 says Judge Harney convicted him and sentenced him to two weeks' imprisonment, noting his 119 previous convictions.

  An Irish man in his 70s connected to the British Virgin Islands-registered company P&ID was arrested in south Dublin on 20 December 2021 on suspicion of bribing an official to help secure a gas-to-energy contract. P&ID, founded by Brendan Cahill and Michael Quinn (who died of cancer in 2015), is alleged to have diverted €17,000 into the official's bank account as a contribution to his son's wedding. The arrest was carried out by the Anti-Bribery & Corruption Unit of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau as part of an international investigation in cooperation with Interpol and Nigerian authorities. The man was detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 and released without charge on Monday night while Gardaí prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
