  A Jack Russell terrier named Kim, owned by 85-year-old retired Garda Donal Rogers of Strokestown, Co Roscommon, bit woman Breid Greene, in her 60s, on the leg from behind without warning on 6 March 2022 while she was walking the Strokestown Famine Trail, requiring eight stitches. Greene obtained a destruction order from Roscommon District Court in late April 2022 under the 1986 Control of Dogs Act, which was upheld on appeal at the Circuit Court in May 2022 and after Rogers formally withdrew his High Court appeal on 28 July 2022. On 11 October 2022, Judge Karen Fergus at the Circuit Court in Athlone granted a four-week stay with conditions including fencing, microchipping, keeping Kim on a lead, and payment of €5,000 compensation and €1,500 legal fees to Greene. The destruction order was permanently stayed in November 2022 after Rogers satisfied the court's conditions.
