  Adam Kelly, 28, of Geashill, Offaly, was sentenced at Tullamore Circuit Court after pleading guilty to careless driving causing serious bodily harm following a head-on collision at Ballycue, Ballinagar, on 17 July 2023. Kelly had been drinking and taking cocaine the day before the crash, and blood analysis showed he was nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit and almost four times above the legal cocaine limit. Passenger Breda Heffernan died on 9 August 2023, nearly three weeks after the collision, while Mary Todd was seriously injured. Kelly was sentenced to 14 months with five months suspended for five years, banned from driving for six years, and given concurrent three-month sentences for admitted drink and drug driving charges.
