Cases
latest first- Motorcyclist sentenced for endangerment at Elton John checkpoint in Cork Endangerment · Co. Cork
On 1 July 2022, a motorcyclist struck Garda Kieran Crowley, a male officer in his late 30s from the Roads Policing Unit, at a static checkpoint on the Victoria Road and Monahan Road junction in Cork City while policing the Elton John concert at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The motorcyclist, later identified as Blake Sheridan, 31, of Annesgrove, Carrigtwohill, failed to remain at the scene, and the Garda sustained non-life-threatening head and facial injuries. Gardaí investigated the incident as a hit-and-run, appealing for witnesses and gathering CCTV footage, and tracked Sheridan via footage at O'Reilly's garage in Blackpool. Sheridan pleaded guilty to endangerment at Cork Circuit Criminal Court and was sentenced to three years in jail with 18 months suspended, conditional on good behaviour, and disqualified from driving for four years.
