    A violent row broke out outside Hanlons Gala petrol station on Dublin Road, Longford on 3 June 2019, linked to the 2015 murder of a relative in Northern Ireland. Four men from Athlone, Co Westmeath — Sammy McGinley (33), Denis McGinley (37), Mick McGinley (20) and Bernard McGinley (22) — were arrested and charged with violent disorder on 8 December 2020, with additional charges of criminal damage, theft and possession of a weapon. At Longford Circuit Criminal Court on 29 January 2022, Judge Keenan Johnson described the incident as 'totally reprehensible' after viewing 30 minutes of CCTV footage. Sammy, Denis and Mick McGinley each received 18-month sentences suspended for five years with a €500 peace bond and €2,000 compensation to Longford Tidy Towns, while Bernard McGinley received one year suspended for five years with €1,000 compensation.
