• Family friend jailed for sexually abusing two sisters Sexual assault · Co. Galway

Benedick Jole, a 46-year-old man whose address is given as Barna, Galway, was a McDonald's security guard and trusted family friend who sexually abused two sisters when they were children. The elder sister was abused between the ages of 11 and 15, and the younger sister disclosed the abuse to their mother. Jole denied 24 sexual assault charges and one charge of attempted anal rape, but he was found guilty of one count of attempted anal rape and 14 counts of sexual assault against the elder sister. On 27 April 2026 he was jailed for 14 years, with an effective 11-year sentence for the more serious offending against the elder sister and a seven-and-a-half-year sentence for the second sister, the final 18 months suspended, and the judge said he had not accepted his guilt.
