    On the night of 20 into 21 September 2024, Ben Costello and his then girlfriend Amber Kirby were walking in Kilkenny when they argued and he pushed or tripped her, as shown on CCTV. Costello, of Carlow, was charged with assaulting Kirby and with public order offences. At Kilkenny District Court in March 2025, he pleaded guilty to being drunk in public and failing to comply with a garda's directions, while the assault charge was dismissed after the judge found it not proven. He was given a conditional discharge under the Probation Act and ordered to have no contact with or about Kirby on social media.
