Barry Murphy, 41, of Grogan, Ballycumber, Co Offaly, was convicted by a jury in 2024 of three counts of raping, coercively controlling, sexually assaulting, assaulting and falsely imprisoning his former partner Lisa O'Meara between February 2018 and July 2020. The offences took place in Co Offaly, apart from one assault committed abroad on a holiday, and the trial was held at Tullamore. In December 2024, Mr Justice Kerida Naidoo sentenced Murphy to a global term of 15 and a half years, with the final year suspended on strict conditions. Murphy is now appealing his conviction at the Court of Appeal, where his barristers argued in October 2026 that cross-examination of the victim was rendered ineffective when she professed no recollection of events.

Barry Murphy (40), of Leabeg, Ballycumber, County Offaly, is accused of threatening to kill a woman on 20 July 2022, and the prosecution says he sent her text messages in the early hours and later visited her property. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of threatening to kill or cause serious harm at Tullamore Circuit Court, where a jury of seven women and five men was sworn in. The trial opened on 15 October 2025 but ended when the jury was discharged on 16 October after legal argument held in their absence. The latest development is that the case was adjourned to Tullamore Circuit Court on 16 January for mention.

Barry Murphy, a 36-year-old man from Crossmaglen, was stopped at a Garda checkpoint at Dungooley Cross in north Louth on 8 August 2019, 100 yards from the border, and charged with driving without insurance or a driving licence. He had previously been convicted in his absence of the same offence and had three prior convictions including drink driving. The case was heard at Dundalk District Court, where it was adjourned in March 2022 for a probation report. In May 2022, Judge Eirinn McKiernan fined him €300 and did not disqualify him.
