During the early hours of 3 June 2022, three people entered an apartment at 25 Weaver's Hall, Market Square, Longford, posing as gardaí, one brandishing a seven-inch kitchen knife, and stole cash, a phone and jewellery from Brazilian man Luis De Silva and Chinese woman Kit de Long. John Kelly (34) posed as a garda with a bogus search warrant, while Donna McDermott (37) and Barry Keane (39) were also present at the scene. Kelly pleaded guilty and was sentenced in February 2023 to five years consecutive to a four-year term for a separate Dublin robbery. McDermott pleaded guilty at a previous sitting but was at large despite a bench warrant; Keane pleaded guilty in June 2023. In October 2023, McDermott and Keane were each sentenced to five years in prison, with the final 18 months suspended.

Barry Keane, 38, of Goshen, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, is charged with interfering with a car outside the Sandy Lane apartments in Longford at around 7:30am on 29 June 2021. He appeared at Longford District Court via video link in early March 2022 and pleaded not guilty. His defence solicitor John Quinn confirmed the charge would be contested. Judge Owens adjourned the case to a sitting of Longford District Court on 28 March 2022. Mr Keane was in custody for other matters at the time of the hearing.
