On 27 November 2024, around 2:30am, taxi driver Badruzzaman Masum, a 47-year-old man, sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman in a Dublin suburb after she had ordered his taxi via an app. Masum touched her thigh a number of times, made crude comments about sexual activity, and groped her breast as she was getting out of the vehicle. He was identified through CCTV footage and analysis of the app, arrested, and pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. In March 2025, Judge Patricia Ryan sentenced him to two years in prison and ordered him onto the sex offender's register.
